It's pretty rare, @pittsburgh, but this year, the gods and goddesses conspired to make it possible for you to attend every community dia de los muertos event! So many dedicated people have worked so diligently to make these experiences possible, and so I wanted to put them all right here and to proclaim that what we've got here, folks, is an unofficial ofrenda crawl! My friend and longtime community partner Luz Amanda CLAS at Pitt invited me to continue our beloved tradition at the Pitt Global Hub. I was then very thankful to be invited by Ellen Tafel and La Escuelita Arcoiris and Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition to create one in the window at Riverstone Bookstore on Forbes Avenue and their event will be a family friendly fun Saturday. I'll be vending there for a few hours as well as eating whatever Los Gallitos serves! I was honored to be invited by Alison Zapata and #Terri Bell to co-create the large circular ofrenda for the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. This was an excepional gift and a labor of love, sweat, with an army of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers. Such luxury! My longtime community partners La Palapa Mexican Cuisine & Mezcal Bar then threw me a gauntlet with a request for a small ofrenda for #FridaKahlo and as always, there will be wondrous food, a new Frida cocktail and plenty of revelry at their event. I didn't collaborate on the last event with PHDC Pgh Hipanic Dev. Corp. and Tocayo Taqueria & Tequila but there's no question that they've also covered all of the bases! And I'm pretty sure that we'll all be eating #pandemuerto from Panaderia Jazmin ! Well then, there are plenty of options for you, plenty of photos to come, and plenty of opportunities to honor our beloved ones on the Other Side. ¡vamanos! #pittsburghofrendacrawl #mesoamericanosunidos #mexburgh #StrongerTogether #DiaDeLosMuertos ... Beautiful
I love huichol art. Watched people creating it in Bucerias, Nayarit in the spring and bought some.
